Whether it's studying dolphin behavior in New Zealand, indigenous herbal
medicine in Kenya, or Pleistocene mammal fossils in Mexico, Earthwatch
volunteers support field science in action where it is most needed. Each year,
4,000 participants join our field teams from the ranks of our membership. For
most it is a life-changing experience that inspires them to do much more.
Since its founding in 1971, Earthwatch Institute has mobilized more than 1,500
projects around the globe. The findings from these projects have resulted in
the discovery of 2,000 new species, the establishment of 12 national parks,
and the founding of 8 museums. Earthwatch teams have brought medicine, clean
water, and proper nutrition to remote villages of 20 countries. Whether
Earthwatch members contribute to these results by volunteering in the field,
or merely enjoy the colorful Research and Exploration Guide and Earthwatch
magazines that are a benefit of membership, they are a vital link to finding
solutions for a sustainable future on Earth.
