Irkutsk Guestbook
My nine-year old daughter and I have just returned home after a seven-day homestay in Irkutsk (and further travel to Ulan Ude, Mongolia, and Beijing). My Siberian family, mom and dad and two daughters aged 10 and 15, were perfect. I would have no hestitation putting my own daughter in the care of these smart and caring people. Baikal is large, cold, and mystical' and would take years to explore. The city of Irkutsk is bright and sunny in June with a great variety of sights and impressions. The New Russians and their suburbs of Summer homes are a real sign of independent ambition and young life. Children are precious to Siberians and receive the warmest considerations and kindnesses. The food is a little limited in variety but fresh, wholesome, and tasty. The cultural discussions were honest and polite. From a Western and U.S.A. perspective, I have no doubt we were changed immensely in our outlooks from the experiences. The lifestyle of the Siberian family we observed was an object lesson in cheerfulness, warm feelings, and hospitality. I encourage the prepared traveller to think about taking a child along to this wonderful place. Hubbard Morris, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Your website is very informative!, Thank you. I may come to your fair city in August with a missionary group to train new Christians to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I would like to know about the Christian movement in the last ten years in your region. Praying about the possibility! God Bless You!

This site is interesting, informative and well written. I would like to know more about the small business sector in your area, preferrably before July 2, when members of our company are visiting Irkutsk. If anyone has any sort of interesting information on this topic, please don╢t hesitate to inform me on e-mail

I am currently working for the English-language newspaper in Vladivostok and I am going to visit Irkutsk and Lake Baikal in July. I wanted to find a site that could give me some ideas for the trip. This is an excellent site, however there is not much information on Baikal itself. I wonder if the Vladivostok News - English newspaer could help you promote Irkutsk- Lake Baikal region plus the Trans Siberian Railway? I would love to hear from you. Thanks Tiffany

Zdravstvuite!
Your site is well designed, pleasant to read, well illustrated and most informative. I plan to be in the Irkutsk/Lake Baikal area in mid-September, 1998. Can anyone help me find the address (e-mail or otherwise) of the famous professor who conducts scientific experiments about Lake Baikal's biological life. Thanks in advance. Bolshoie spasibo.

As a student at the University of Kansas currently studying Russian and Eastern European cultures, I am always eager to learn more about this area. Through websites like this, my classes at KU, and the wonderful books by Valentin Rasputin (among others), I have gained a new respect and awe of the beauty of Siberia and its people. Please continue to use this forum to educate the world about these diverse lands and cultures, as I fear that many see Siberia as a frozen wasteland and place of exile only. Hopefully, I will someday have the opportunity to gaze on the beauty of Irkutsk and Lake Baikal with my own eyes!

My wife and I visited Irkutsk and Angarsk in the middle ofNovember 1997. Our purpose was to adopt a child. We did thatand adopted Andrew from Angarsk. He is beautiful and isnow 21 months old. We stayed in a large hotel in Irkutsk, andthe floor we were on was very nice. We only made a day tripto Angarsk. It was very nice on November 17 in Angarsk - thesun came out and the sky was blue - a lovely way to meetyour new son. Irkutsk and Angarsk will always be in ourhearts, and we hope that we shall return soon.
