"Siberia and the Far East: Looking Ahead Into the 21st Century" is the theme of the three-day economic forum, which will begin in Irkutsk on September 20.Itar-Tass was told by the forum's regional organisation committee that Upper House Speaker Yegor Stroyev, Vice-Premier and Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin, as well as the heads of the subjects of the Russian Federation stretching from the Urals to the Pacific Ocean are expected to take part in its work.
Several conferences and roundtables are to be held in the course of the function. They will be devoted to the strategy of boosting the economic potential of the eastern regions of Russia and their cooperation with countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The forum will discuss problems linked with investments and the demographic policy, with the tapping of natural resources, development of transport services, prospects for building inter-state electric power systems, and construction of gas pipelines.
The organisers of the forum believe that the largest foreign delegations will come from China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.
